JACKET #7 - CRAZY JACKET HEAVEN
FRONT VIEW
Liz picked up this super ultimate crazy jacket a couple months ago for me at LA's Rosebowl Flea Market. It's 80s vintage and made from sequins and glass beading. This jacket makes me really excited. The kind of excited that includes jumping up and down accompanied by sporadic jigs, cause all at once, I feel just like the capitalized expressions on the jacket: "AWESOME", "PARTY", "WOW", "WILD", "NUTS", "YIKES", "CRAZY", "FUN", etc. I'm waiting for the right occasion to wear this one out, thinking it might be the perfect way to kick off 2010!!

JACKET #6 – PLANET UNICORN IN THE MIX
BACK DETAIL
BACK VIEW
Liz and I were thrifting this summer when she came across Jacket #6, a cotton bolero/vest one piece combo. Its bedazzling and rainbowness totally reminds me of what a real life Rainbow Brite would wear. And when I saw the prancing ponies on the back, I thought it was so funny, since it was an automatic association with Planet Unicorn, a Youtube cartoon. It is from the brand 1849, and surely from the 1980s.

JACKET #5 – GIMME A SWAN DIVE

This jacket has the tendency to stir up a lot of trouble. The first time I wore it out, drunken people wouldn’t stop following me around and asking to try it on. One difficult person in particular, at 111 Minna in San Francisco, went so far as to take it out of my bag without asking, so he could dance in it. A couple people have offered to buy it off my back, and for good reason: it’s rad vintage Speedo from the 80’s and ones like these are becoming increasingly rare, so of course I’m not selling. Plus I like to wear this one when I travel, since it is warm and cozy (cotton but lined in mesh).

JACKET #4 – IS NOT A BORE!
FRONT VIEW
BACK VIEW
This sequins/fringe/cheetah number came from one of Liz’s shopping excursions, and when she showed me The Goods, I was absolutely speechless because I had fallen in love. Firstoff, I have NEVER, EVER seen leather fringe on a sequins jacket. And then, cheetah sequins designs too?!!! It was just really overwhelming how absolutely fabulous this jacket is, and it remains one of my favorites. There are no labels inside the jacket, and I am guessing it is from sometime in the 1990s.

And oddly enough, there is a somewhat similar fringed jacket worn by Megan Fox on the cover of this month’s Nylon magazine.

JACKET #3 – ELLESSE ME
FRONT VIEW
SIDE VIEW
I practically screamed when I spotted this electric blue vintage Ellesse jacket from a thrift store some months back. Reminds me of when I was a kid in the eighties, and I had a pair of Ellesse black leather sneakers that I LOVED, and wore until their bitter end, despite the fact they looked like black orthopedic, granny, janitor shoes. What I like in particular about this jacket is that it has the look of a racing jacket, complete with a lime green satin lining, and a Perugia, Italy patch (city/country of origin) and a 59 patch (year of origin). It also has gargantuan removable shoulder pads and Ellesse embroidered in lime green across the front chest area. I’m guessing it dates back to the mid-1980s.

JACKET #2 – DO YOU WANNA SCREW?

JACKET #2 – DO YOU WANNA SCREW?
This jacket came from a thrift store about a month ago, and I had to have it because of its squirrely story telling capabilities. Printed on it are people having drinks, then dancing, then what looks like them rolling around on the floor together, but what is really just some dirty dancing. I found it paired with a skirt, and is probably a shirt, but in my reality, I’m going to wear it as a jacket. My friend, Liz, actually went back to the store for the matching skirt, but it was gone, and with a distinctive print like this, it surely wasn’t an oversight. It’s 100% Rayon, from the brand We Be Bop, and totally from the early 1990s.

JACKET #1 - GRAFFITI IS MO' FUN
I found this one about two years ago sitting in a rumpled pile at a flea market. Even from afar, the bright neon colors screamed, "Buy me! Buy me!" So I did. Upon closer inspection, I realized the jacket was home sewn, and I believe it is a cotton print from the mid 1980s. People LOVE this one. I LOVE that, "Party" and "Dude" are emblazoned on it. I actually have to keep this one hidden in my closet cause my brother tries to steal it every time he comes over!
